KFC’s “Buckets for the Cure”? Seriously?

Ok, I have to say that I think this whole pink ribbon marketing alliance between individual businesses and Susan G Komen may be going a little too far.  KFC is starting a “Buckets for the cure” campaign??  You can buy a bucket of fried chicken to benefit breast cancer awareness??  I’m not even sure how to react to that.

For all the “awareness” fostered over the years by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, and all the money that has changed hands, has there been a proportional amount of progress made? And where is the emphasis on prevention?  I agree that looking for a cure is important, but even if we discover the perfect way to kill or remove the cancer…what keeps it from happening again?  Wouldn’t we be better served by preventing initial cancers, and understanding how to prevent recurrences of previous cancers?

I guess the point of all of this is to “Think before you Pink” to quote  It’s great to support a cause that’s close to your heart, but know where the money goes, and make sure that you agree with the philosophies you are promoting.

No Oreo Zone?

Interesting story on FoxNews this morning about a school in Florida (a private school for children with behavioral issues) that has banned white flour, sugar, and refined / processed foods.  The Hosts of Fox & Friends seemed a little antagonistic and challenging, but I would love to have to opportunity to send my child (thankfully without behavioral issues) to a school with these policies.  Watch the video, and let me know what you all think.  Thanks!
